In the morning we leave Chiclayo in our private car and head towards Chachapoyas (approx. 10 hour drive). Chachapoyas has been the center of the culture with the same name until it was conquered by the Incas in the 15th century. We'll spend the nights in a beautiful lodge near Tingo, which is a little South of Chachapoyas town.

After breakfast we enjoy an excursion on horseback, which leads us to the picturesque gravesite of Revash. The walls of the mausoleums are painted with geometrical figures as well as pictures of Lamas. After the visit we drive to the small town of Leimebamba, where we'll visit the Mallqui Museum. In this museum we find a collection of 219 very well preserved mommies of the Chachapoyas culture, which have been found near the Condor lagoon. Also you can find there a garden with more than 100 different kinds of orchids. The night we spend in Leimebamba.

Today we continue our journey to Kuelap, a spectacular construction on the top of a hill. It is also known as the second Machu Picchu. Its thick and high walls are really impressive and in the interior you can find about 480 building structures, which are build in the traditional way of the Chachapoyas. We have lunch in a restaurant in Choctamal before we continue to the town of Chachapoyas.

After breakfast we towards Karajia. Here we can look across a vertical cliff face to a completely inaccessible cave where the ancient Chachapoyans somehow installed nine tall clay figures, up to some 3 m high, inside which the bodies of chieftains and perhaps their families were interred. One of the figures has been destroyed by falling rocks, and one damaged. The others are intact. After our visit in Karija we drive to the village of the dead (Pueblo de los Muertos), which lies in an almost inaccessible place. In the late afternoon return to Chachapoyas.

After breakfast we drive back to Chiclayo and transfer to your hotel.
