Day 1: Cusco - km 104 - Chachabamba - Wiñay Wayna - Aguas Calientes
(-/L/D)

We pick you up in the early morning and take you to the train station of Cusco. From here the train takes us to the km 104 of the railway Cusco-Machu Picchu. Here we'll start our hiking adventure. On the way we'll visit the archaeological site of Chachabamba at 2170 m. Then we ascend to Wiñay Wayna, the largest and most exquisite of the Inca Trail sites. After having lunch we continue through the humid cloud-forest of giant ferns to the Inti Punku or the Gate of the Sun. We encounter an unforgettable sweep of natural beauty and human artistry and will have the most impressive panoramic view of the citadel. From here we'll descend in bus to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we'll spend the night.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco
(B/L/-)

Early in the morning we take a small coach to the entrance of the citadel of Machu Picchu to enjoy the sunrise in this magical place. In the "lost city of the Incas" we will have our guided tour (2-3 hours) in which you will visit the most important and interesting places of Machu Picchu. After that you will have free time to explore the complex on your own. The uniqueness of its location and the genius that went into its construction make this Inca archaeological site truly one of the great wonders of the world. In the afternoon you will return through the mountainous switchback passes to Cusco (according to availability direct train or train to Ollantaytambo and bus to Cusco), where you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
